Last week, Sioux Falls Police were investigating an armed robbery at a bank ATM were 2 men pulled up behind the victims car, the passenger got our and held a gun to his side and took the money and tried taking his wallet before getting back in the car and driving away.
Tips for Staying Safe at an ATM
- Choose an ATM in a busy, well lit area: There should be pleny of people around and enough light for everyone to see you.
- Use an ATM in the morning: Robbers tend to prefer the oover of darkness to the light of the day.
- Bring a friend to the ATM: Robbers usually prefer to target isolated individuals, as opposed to groups of 2 or more.
- Lock all your doors and roll up your windows at a drive-up ATM: Only roll down your window when neccessary.
- Watch for any suspicious activity around you at an ATM: Keep your eyes open for anything out of the ordinary and trust your instincts.
- Get cash inside the bank or at another location: During business hours get cash in the bank from a teller. Or consider getting cash back from a debit card transaction at the grocery store or other retail location.
